Snap !

As long as I can remember I have always loved taking pictures. My parents would buy me disposable cameras and let me take pictures of anything I wanted. Whenever I would go out the camera would always follow and I had pictures of everything and everyone I would come across. Of course the pictures were mostly out of focus and heads were cropped off most of the people, but I didn't care. They looked beautiful ! I have always loved taking pictures so in my first year of college I took photography classes and fell even more in love. My fascination with black and white pictures got stronger when I learned how to develop my own film. Something about being in a dark room and not being able to see what I was doing was always intriguing to me, it was a mission trying not to scratch the film while trying to roll it in into the metal canister in complete darkness. I bought my first DSLR camera while taking that class, it was so fun to use.

My favorite type of pictures are the ones where the person I am taking pictures of doesn't notice, you get to capture a moment in time when they are simply being themselves, no pose, no fake smile, just them. Kind of cheesy I know, but try taking a picture when they don't notice and see how different that is compared to telling someone to say "Cheese !".

I am now in the process, or should I say saving, to upgrading to a better camera, the gorgeous Canon 5D Mark II. I can't wait to get my hands on that baby, it is expensive but so worth it. I am sure to go picture crazy once it's mine.

Birthday present anyone?

Until Next time,
Amy.

Ahhhh ! its that time of year again when the nights get cold, the jack-o-lanters light up and all the children come out to play ! Yes ladies and gentlemen it is Halloween ! Halloween has to be one of our favorite holidays. The candy, the costumes, the creepy music, we love it ! This year we did last minute shopping for our costumes (so not like us) and still came up with some pretty awesome costumes.

Eslee as "Captain Jack Sparrow"

and me, Amy as "Mario"

We always look forward to hanging out with friends and family on halloween. George the "Prisoner", Diego from the "US Army" and Alejandro "Link" from the Legend of Zelda.

Fur and Paws

"A dog can express more with his tail in minutes than his owner can express with his tongue in hours."
- Anonymous

Meet the first furry member of our family, Casey the golden retriever.

On one of my dads trips to Minnesota, he came back with a surprise for me and it just happened to be a gorgeous golden retriever puppy. That present was given to me thirteen years ago and she was the cutest puppy I've ever seen. Casey was a big trouble maker when she was small, she would jump all over the house, dropping plants and creating a mess. She was incredibly active and wouldn't sit still for a second. However, she was also very patient. She never bit anyone, even when I would sit on top of her and bug the heck out of her while she was eating.

Casey is a bit odd, she hates showers but loves sitting outside when it's pouring rain which leaves a wet dog stench for several days. She also scratches her back like a bear, she has her signature wall where there is a dark streak of dirt running along it. Since she was a puppy she scratched herself there and to this day, she still does. Casey is old now, she doesn't run as much and she lost her ability to hear about a year ago. Even though she has aged, she still remains strong by our side.

Now it's time to introduce the second furball, Troy the shih tzu.

For my little sisters birthday, my family and I went on a hunt for the perfect puppy present to give to Lindsey. Lindsey always asked my parents for a dog and she always got the same response, "we already have Casey." So a few days before her birthday, we found the perfect shih tzu. His name is Troy and right now, as I'm typing this post, he is attacking a bucket, growling at it. If we thought Casey was a trouble maker when she was little, Troy puts his paw in the lead. He is about to be five months old and for only being five months, he is a mega pain. He grabs a roll of toilet paper and runs all around the house leaving a trail behind. He bites everyones shoe and takes out the soles to lose them. He digs into our clothes and bedsheets. He will bite your hair if it is close enough for him to reach and trust me, he won't let go. And our favorite, he jumps onto the couch from the staircase, just to land on us and go into full attack mode. Oh, that little Shih tzu...

An odd thing about Troy is the fact that he dislikes sleeping in his dog bed. We bought a soft, brown bed and he refuses to sleep in it. He rather sleep on the hard wooden floor than his comfy bed. One day, we found him sleeping on one of Lindsey's beds for her dolls, he was knocked out cold. Sadly, the only time he uses his dog bed is when he humps it... silly Troy.

Well, there you have it, the two dogs in our family. We also have a fish name O'malley, but ... it's a fish. There is not much to say about him, Hahah.

Planning the Trip

Passing sign after sign, the never ending road and the constant stops to pee and stretch your legs ... Oh, the joy of a road trip!  My family and I are road trip junkies. Whether it's to Mammoth Lake, San Francisco or Minnesota, we never pass the opportunity to take a trip. Only this time I'm going solo. Well ... Not exactly, George is coming with.  And guess where? Texas and Oklahoma to visit my beautiful and loca cousins :) right now we are in the process of planning. How much money we'll need, if we need to rent a car because I don't have a car, George does but we're not sure if it will get us there in one piece.  But besides that I know for sure it will all be fun and fine. Especially because we will be listening to MY music. Which will be PURE DEMI LOVATO !! We want to go before Thanksgiving, hopefully the beginning of November.

Again, we are still planning and hoping everything works out. I’ve been to Oklahoma and passed by Texas before for the same reason of visiting my family. So many memories were made and I can’t wait to go and make some new ones. For  now we will wait and see. Along the way of this trip, I will be updating this blog so you guys can follow me and George on the road. I'll keep you posted. :)

TO BE CONTINUEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD !!!!!

Disneyland Memories

When it comes to the happiest place on earth, Disneyland is without a doubt the best. I have been going to Disneyland for as long as I can remember. My parents would often have dates there and took me many time while I was still in my mom's tummy. Disneyland has always been a part of my life, its my favorite place in the world. This past year my sisters and I bought the Disneyland Annual Pass and i'm sure they wont sell us one again because we went so much ! We would seriously go at least 9-10 times a month. These are a few of my favorite moments....

Cant wait to get The Annual Pass again !

Feria Chapina

**WATCH IN HD**

When we heard La Feria Chapina was coming to town, we knew we had to go. We had gone to many Salvadorean fairs before but never a Guatemalan one. There we found not only Guatemalan people but people from all over Central America. There was live music and delicious food. Overall, it was a fun day.

A New Driver In Town

About a week ago I went to my local DMV to take my permit test. There is nothing much to say except that it is an incredibly boring place, and for an impatient person like myself, I considered it torture. Eslee and George kept me company and surprisingly, I sat a few seats next to the famous Omarion. That was probably the best thing that happened within the DMV... except the fact that I passed my test. I now have my permit to practice driving!

Most of my friends had already practiced driving even though they don't have a permit. However I was very excited about my permit because I had never moved a car, not even an inch or two. Nope, I hadn't sat in the drivers seat with my hands on the wheel until thursday, August 16. So here I was at Elysian park, Amy in the passenger seat and my mom in the back seat. Not only was I excited but extremely scared because I was driving Amy's car. I knew that a single scratch on her car would mean the end of me. I was mentally ready, Hah.

My first time driving consisted of using my turn signals, changing lanes, obeying stops, giving turns and driving down hills. Personally, I don't think I did bad for my first time. I did however, freaked out whenever there was a car near enough to crash into. When I saw a police car with it's sirens on, I instantly starting screaming and I think I might have given my mom a heart attack at my reaction. Overall, it all ran smoothly and I didn't do any single damage to Amy's car. SUCCESS!

Now when it comes to cars, I have no idea which one to get. See, I start school at the end of this month and since I'm commuting, I'm eventually going to start driving myself there but for now I am depending on my parents. I know this is going to be a huge hassle for them and I really don't want to waste their time and so I am determined to get my drivers license as soon as possible. All I need is more practice and of course, a car of my own.

My sisters suggested a smart car but the idea of just having myself and only one other passenger is weird to me. Only two people, that's like Me and... one of my sisters or one parent or one boyfriend. Hahah, kidding, just thought I would be humorous there for a moment. Anyway, I feel like I would have to choose only one person, and I might get other people's feelings hurt. Okay, maybe I'm being over dramatic. No, what if there was a crisis and I could only take one person with me? See, maybe a smart car isn't the best.

... I need to go car hunting.

The Twenty-Two Year Old Braceface

Braces.... What can I say ? They suck. For those of you who are 13 or 14  years old its cute, but for us 22 and older you know how it is. We can't be taken seriously, at least not me, I already look 17 and my braces don't help.  The times i've gone out  looking all cute with my heels, clothes, and my hair done, I smile and ... I have a mouth full of metal! It makes people think,"How old are you?" LOL. I've seen so many people that look cute with braces, but I don't think they look that cool on me. Both Amy and Samantha already had braces. They did the two years and now they're all done, Im still in the process.

I got my braces about 6 months after Sam did and she has been braces free for about a year now. It has been so long that I don't even remember how I looked  before I had them! I swear if I climb a mountain I'll be able to get signal with all this metal! If the world ever has a metal shortage, I've got it covered. I have to admit, changing the color of your bands every month is awesome, mine are currently neon pink. On my last check up they made me wear some rubber bands that hook across the top to the lower wires on my teeth.

I'm in so much pain that if I eat anything hard I feel like my teeth are going to fall off of my gums. I'm in so much pain that I am stuck eating mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese and everything else mushy. I don't really mind though being I'm already half grandma, I will leave that for another post ;) So for now, I have to deal with these beautiful, painful, and annoying braces. Hopefully they come off soon. I can't wait for my next orthodontist appointment because that means I am one step closer to getting these babies off !

Yours truly, Eslee !

Back To School Fashion

If you're a student like me, then you know it's that time again. Yes ladies and gentlemen, I'm talking about going back to school. Whether it's studying in the library or walking around campus, these three outfits I've put together will keep you looking not only fashionable but comfortable enough to hit those books!

Outfit 1: For the first outfit I decided to to go with my girly girl side and wear this cute dress I found at Target. I paired it with this cute denim vest that I luckily was able to get my hands on at Forever 21. (It was the last one left!) Finally, I wore my comfortable shoes from Vans. I've had them for ages, they go with everything, I swear. Oh, and I also wore a shiny bracelet which I don't recall where I bought but it's similar to any regular charm bracelet.

Outfit 2: This outfit happens to be one of my favorites because who doesn't love shorts? My light denim shorts and floral top were bought at Forever 21. Wait... actually the entire outfit is from there. The shoes have zippers on the back which is a nice twist.

Outfit 3: This is the most comfortable outfit. I find myself wearing colored jeans often. These beauties were bought at Pacsun and to be honest, I wanted to buy a pair in every color. Because the colored jeans makes the outfit pop, I balanced it out with a black top from Forever 21 and my grey Toms.

Thanks for checking out my post and I'll talk to you soon!

One Ticket Please !

We spend most of our lives in one place and one place only. We wake up, go to work, school, come back home and occasionally go out. The days seem to be nothing more than a routine and I must say, it does get kind of boring.  I haven’t really had the opportunity to travel; I mean I’ve been to Oklahoma and Minnesota to visit family but nothing outside of the states, not to vacation really. When I was little I always imagined that once I got older I would have these cool vacations that would turn into these incredible adventure like I saw Mary-Kate and Ashley do in all of their movies. Sadly I wasn’t in a movie and when I did get older, the closes thing I got to a Mary-Kate and Ashley movie was going to Mammoth Lake during wintertime when I was really sick and almost froze to death. Now that I am older, and not even close to feeling like an adult, I have yet to take that vacation that I’ve always wanted. Of course now the destinations have changed and I no longer want to go on an adventure and find gold in the Bahamas.

Lately I have been thinking of places I would like to vacation to, I've even began to look into getting my passport. Yes, the travel bug has bit me !  There are so many places that I would love to go to. I want to visit a place that is tropical, has history, a places with breath taking views, with mouth watering foods, an absolute perfect vacation spot. A place where i will make memories that I will keep with me forever. So much research needs to be made, but for now I will continue saving so that when I do know where to go, I can purchase that ticket and go where ever my heart desires.

If you were to take your perfect vacation where would you go?

Food: The Corner Bakery

The title says it all, everyone meet The Corner Bakery where you will find sandwiches, salads, soups, pasta and everything tasty.

Every time I go I like to order something different from their menu, everything is so delicious ! This time we ordered a Chicken Caesar Salad, some hearty pasta, Chicken Carbonara to be exact, and to finish it all off, a meatball panini which just happens to be Sam's favorite (she will get mad if she finds out I went without her ).  And lets be honest, who doesn't love a sour pickle on the side?

Doesn't that marinara sauce look so yummy?

The best part of this Chicken Carbonara.... Dipping the bread on the creamy sauce. I loved it so much I brought some home for my parents to try.

Me and my lunch date :)

If you are ever around the Burbank area stop by the Corner Bakery and make sure to sign up and give your email address, you get a free cookie !

From Day to Night in Black and White

Being that it's summer and all, feeling fresh and looking fabulous is always a must. Not letting the days heat get to me, I decided to wear a simple black maxi dress and topped it off with my hair up in a bun. While shopping I came across this white blazer which I immediately fell in love with, want in on a little secret? I'm obsessed with blazers ! shhhh !

You can transition your day look into a night look by just adding some heels, letting down your hair and wearing a nice pair of fitted jeans. Complete the look with some statement jewelry and you are ready to hit the town. That's what I love about blazers, they are so easy to style. A girl could never have too many blazers !

Outfit 1 - Dress: Forever 21/Blazer: Sears/Shoes: Nine West/Accessories: Forever 21
Outfit 2 - Top: Cotton On/Blazer: Sears/Bottoms: Macy's (Jessica Simpson)/Shoes: Steve Madden/Necklace: Claires/Ring: Forever 21

Remembering The Surgery

Everything seemed to be passing by incredibly fast, adults don't joke around when they say high school goes by quickly. I still haven't absorbed the fact that I am a graduate and will no longer be attending high school. Life has a strange way of laying things out, one day I'm in my graduation cap and gown and soon after, I'm in a patient's gown in the same hospital I was born in.
It's like getting hit by a bus, (even though I've never been hit by a vehicle, thank God.) It's sudden, quick, there is hardly any time to react. Being the first in my family to undergo surgery, you can only expect me to have horrible thoughts on the situation. I'm the type of girl who worries over the little things, and this obviously was not little. The reason for surgery, appendicitis.

Before surgery, before graduation, I had a slight pain in my stomach. It didn't seem to be anything serious, I thought it was food poisoning thanks to Wood Ranch, a restaurant where I stuffed my face with bread and an endless amount of barbecue sauce... but it wasn't food poisoning. I brushed it off, went home, told nobody about my pain and fell asleep. The next day was graduation day, I woke up with no pain and so I thought it had gone away, one of those temporary things but boy was I wrong. Graduation went great, I didn't fall and break my face, which was my biggest concern after I heard they had waxed the floors. I received my diploma, took countless amounts of pictures and went home. Everything was running smoothly until AFTER graduation when the next morning I did the most ridiculous thing a person in pain would do... I went to Disney California Adventure Park for the opening of the famous Cars Land.

My sisters and I have annual passes and so attending this day was a must. While waiting in line I literally felt the pain increasing, oh and did I mention that this was a three and a half hour long line? During those hours I realized it wasn't a regular stomach ache, it was something much more serious. Once I got home after that LONG day at Disney California Adventure, I went straight to my mom and told her how I had been feeling for the last couple of days. The following morning, she took me to the hospital where I spent a week after surgery.
After several exams, a doctor came to visit me to notify me that I needed surgery because I had an inflamed appendix. My mom was sitting next to me and she never left my side during the entire process. I remember my dad and three sisters coming to visit me before they took me to surgery. The look on their faces is something I will never forget. It's truly a scary experience, I get teary eyed just thinking about it.

After seeing my family, I was put in a gurney (one of those mobile hospital beds) and taken into a hall where all surgery took place. I remember laying in that narrow bed and staring at my reflection in the mirrors attached to the ceiling. "Here I go", I kept repeating to myself. The nurse who was moving the gurney was a young male, a quiet one. He took me to my destination and without saying a word, patted my leg, and walked away. I really grew to like him even though we never exchanged words, but that pat in the leg was good enough. A silent "good luck" which was exactly what I needed. Honestly, the rest I don't remember. I was put into a room with weird looking lights above the surgery table. Once on the table, a man came and placed something over my face, "You'll fall right to sleep", he said and he was right. I woke up to the lovely faces of my family hours later.

The week after was made up of eating jello (which wasn't very appetizing), to being exposed to morphine, to walking up and down the same hallway, to getting visitors that cared about me. This experience is very fresh in my mind. I can still hear the noises that filled the nurse station, I can still feel the texture of my gown, still smell the hospital food brought to me. One of my favorite memories takes place when I was walking down the hallway. The doctors told me I had to get on my feet in order to exercise and gain better posture. Halfway down the hallway I came across a room where an old woman who had had surgery was in the arms of her love. The joy that instantly appeared in her face when the doctor said she could leave the hospital that day was simply amazing. However, this moment quickly ended when I encountered a dark room where a man was sleeping in his bed, his room was empty. No flowers, no visitors, no presence. Seeing him alone made me realize I'm grateful to have my family. For without them, I wouldn't have been able to get through this surgery. So thanks Mom, Dad, Amy, Eslee and Lindsey, for never leaving my side.
