Jaraguá Restuarant, one of the best Salvadoran places to eat located in Los Angeles. Here you will find a variety of foods from El Salvador and let me tell you, everything is delicious.
To be honest, this restaurant can get pretty crowded, but there is never a wait time. It is a small but really comfortable space, it gives a very "home" feeling with the warm paint colors on the walls. The Salvadorian theme is very welcoming, and the paintings along the walls represent the daily lives of these people.

As for the menu, every popular Salvadorian dish is provided. My family loves this place because there is a wide selection of food that provide the Salvadorian experience. One of the things I like about the menu is that there is a short english description for each dish underneath the spanish title for those who don't speak spanish.
Lets start with drinks. They have the typical sodas such as Coke and Sprite but apart from the American beverages, there is also other choices such as Tamarindo, Ensalada, and Horchata. (Ensalada and Horchata in picture) If you are over 21, you can order Cerveza y Vinos, Beer and Wine, from their provided bar located in the back of the restaurant.
Now lets talk about the most important part, the food! The entrees range from carne asada, camarones entomatados (Shrimp sautéed in tomato sauce), platano frito (Fried Plantain), empanadas... and much more. The side orders are made up of bread, tortillas, beans, rice, and sour cream. There is also small dishes such as tamales, soups, and salads.
This is one of the entrees we ordered was called Sopa de Pollo, it is a bowl of soup served with chicken, rice, salad, and a tortilla. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the soup, but it still looks good, doesn't it?
Casamiento, rice and beans combined with a side of sour creme and cheese. So simple, yet so delicious.
Here is my moms favorite, Yuca Frita con Chicharron. Yuca is a vegetable, much like a potato. The chicharon are fried pork rinds. The dish is also served with Curtido, a cole slaw like side made up of cabbage, carrots, onions, oregano and vinegar.
If you are a meat lover, then you'll want to order the dish called Mar Y Tierra, which is simply meat and shrimp served with rice and beans.
and of course, we can't forget the most delicious dish of all, the pupusa. Do not underestimate it's flavor because it will leave your tummy stuffed and wanting more.
El Jaraguá Restaurant is a must for any Salvadorian family, or anyone that wants to experience the flavors from El Salvador. This restaurant is opened every day of the week, from 11 AM to 10 PM. So if you want to try something new, or revive your salvadorian tastebuds, consider going to El Jaraguá. One warning however, the food does take long to cook, so don't arrive on a completely empty stomach, trust me, You'll regret that. But hey, great quality food takes time to make, right?
